Background Information

Escondido is a general law city governed by a five-member City Council. The Mayor and the City Treasurer are directly elected at large. The City of Escondido has been divided into four districts, which shall be used for all regular elections of Council members; for the recall of any Council member elected; for the appointment of any new Council member to fill a vacancy in the office of member of the Council; and for any special election to fill a vacancy in the office of member of the Council. The term of office for each member is four years with staggered terms.

Elected Offices

District 1

District 1 is currently represented by Councilmember Consuelo Martinez. The seat is up for election in 2026.

District 2

District 2 is currently represented by Councilmember Joe Garcia. The seat is up for election in 2026.

District 3

District 3 is currently represented by Councilmember Christian Garcia. The seat is up for election in 2028.

District 4

District 4 is currently represented by Councilmember Judy Fitzgerald. The seat is up for election in 2028.

Mayor

The Office Mayor is currently represented by Mayor Dane White. The seat is up for election in 2026.

City Treasurer

Elections and Census: How They Tie Together

Completing the Census is extremely important for several reasons, but on a local level, Census results directly affect your district and voting. The Census count determines the number of and boundaries for numerous elected offices, including City Council members. Every 10 years, after the Census is completed, the City forms an independent Redistricting Commission vested with the authority to update Escondido's Districts for future elections.
