Escondido, CA - Escondido Public Library invites adult readers to join the 2nd Tuesday Book Club meeting on July 14, 2015, at 6:00 p.m. in the Turrentine Room. This month’s selection is Nocturnes: Five Stories of Music and Nightfall by Kazuo Ishiguro. This book was specially selected to fit the 2015 Adult Summer Reading Club theme, Read to the Rhythm.
Escondido Public Library’s 2015 Adult Summer Reading Club promotes reading for enjoyment and pleasure, and provides Summer Reading Club members a chance to read and earn prizes in weekly drawings. Join the Adult Summer Reading Club, which runs through August 1, 2015. Sign up online beginning June 15 at library.escondido.org/SRC or in the Library at the Information Desk. Throughout the program, special musical events will be offered to tie-in with the theme.
With the clarity and precision that have become his trademarks, Kazuo Ishiguro interlocks five short pieces of fiction to create a world that resonates with emotion, heart break, and humor. Here is a fragile, once famous singer, turning his back on the one thing he loves; a music junky with little else to offer his friends but opinion; a songwriter who inadvertently breaks up a marriage; a jazz musician who thinks the answer to his career lies in changing his physical appearance; and a young cellist whose tutor has devised a remarkable way to foster his talent. For each, music is a central part of their lives and, in one way or another, delivers them to an epiphany.
The 2nd Tuesday Book Club will continue on August 11, 2015, with The Aviator’s Wife by Melanie Benjamin. The selection for September 8, 2015, will be The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon, the 2015 One Book One San Diego title.
