2nd Tuesday Book Club Discusses Off Course by Michelle Huneven

11/12/2015 Categories: Adults Book Club

Escondido, CA - Escondido Public Library invites readers to join the 2nd Tuesday Book Club meeting on December 8, 2015, at 6:00 p.m. in the Turrentine Room. This month’s selection is Off Course by Michelle Huneven.

The year is 1981, Reagan is in the White House, and the country is stalled in a recession. Cressida Hartley, a gifted Ph.D. student in economics, moves into her parents' shabby A-frame cabin in the Sierras to write her dissertation. Off Course is Michelle Huneven’s most intimate and emotionally compelling novel to date, telling the story of Cressida as she delves into life in a mountain community to escape the trip wires of her life. The book features Huneven’s signature mix of fine-grained storytelling, unforgettable characters, and moral complexity.

The 2nd Tuesday Book Club will continue on January 12, 2016 with The Liar’s Wife by Mary Gordon.  The selection for February 9, 2016 is the non-fiction title Isaac’s Storm: a man, a time, and the deadliest hurricane in history by Erik Larson.

All Library programs are generously sponsored by Friends of the Escondido Public Library and are free to the public. Escondido Public Library is located at 239 South Kalmia Street in downtown Escondido.  For more information about the 2nd Tuesday Book Club visit library.escondido.org or contact the Library information desk at 760-839-4839.
