Escondido, CA - Escondido Public Library invites adult readers to join the 2nd Tuesday Book Club meeting on Tuesday, March 10, 2015, at 6:00 p.m. in the Turrentine Room. This month’s selection is The Woman Upstairs by Claire Messud.
Nora Eldridge is a reliable, but unremarkable, friend and neighbor, always on the fringe of other people’s achievements. But the arrival of the Shahid family—dashing Skandar, a Lebanese scholar, glamorous Sirena, an Italian artist, and their son, Reza—draws Nora into a complex and exciting new world. Nora’s happiness pushes her beyond her boundaries, until Sirena’s careless ambition leads to a shattering betrayal in The Woman Upstairs.
The 2nd Tuesday Book Club will continue on April 14, 2015, with a discussion of a nonfiction title, Catherine the Great: Portrait of a Woman, by Robert K. Massie. The selection for May 12, 2015, will be the classic Washington Square by Henry James.
April is National Library Month, and the 2nd Tuesday Book Club is just one of many programs offered as part of a month-long celebration. The month is highlighted by special programs, such as Be Money Smart @ Escondido Public Library—a new financial series on becoming debt free, managing your money wisely, and planning for retirement; the Second Saturday Concert Series featuring the Kensington Trio—classical music for a piano and strings; and always a host of fun and educational programs for teens and children.
All Library programs are free to the public. Escondido Public Library is located at 239 South Kalmia Street in downtown Escondido.
