2nd Tuesday Book Club to discuss Monstress by Lysley Tenorio

Escondido, CA -  Escondido Public Library invites adult readers to join the 2nd Tuesday Book Club meeting on Tuesday, October 14, 2014, at 6:00 PM in the Turrentine Room. This month’s title is the 2014 One Book, One San Diego selection, Monstress by Lysley Tenorio.

Monstress is a luminous collection of heartbreaking, vivid, startling, and gloriously unique stories set amongst the Filipino-American communities of California and the Philippines.  Author Tenorio, a San Diego native, brilliantly explores the need to find connections, the melancholy of isolation, and the sometimes suffocating ties of family in tales that range from a California army base to a steamy movie house in Manila, to the dangerous false glitter of Hollywood.

This program is supported by KPBS and Escondido Public Library is pleased to be affiliated with this year’s One Book, One San Diego program. The Library has multiple copies of the book in its collection, available for check-out. Readers are encouraged to join in and participate in the 2nd Tuesday Book Club discussion.

In observance of Veterans Day, the 2nd Tuesday Book Club will not meet on November 11, 2014.  The 2nd Tuesday Book Club will continue on December 9, 2014, with a discussion on the nonfiction title, Destiny of the Republic: a tale of madness, medicine and the murder of a president by Candice Millard.

All library programs are free to the public. Escondido Public Library is located at 239 South Kalmia Street in downtown Escondido. For more information about the 2nd Tuesday Book Club visit or contact the Library information desk at 760-839-4839.
