Escondido Public Library Presents the San Diego Symphony Performing a Linda and Shearn Platt Kinder Koncert

The Escondido Public Library invites grade school children to attend two Kinder Koncert performances by the San Diego Symphony,  Wednesday, February 14, 2013 at 10:00 AM and 11:15 AM in the Turrentine Room.

Conducted by Ken-David Masur, the Symphony will introduce children to the string instruments and  teach basic concepts such as melody, rhythm and harmony.  Linda and Shearn Platt Kinder Koncerts are designed to introduce the youngest listeners to classical music, instruments of the orchestra, and to the live concert experience. The San Diego Symphony samples some of music’s greatest composers including Benjamin Britten, Edward Elgar, Felix Mendelssohn, and more.

Escondido Public Library now has Chromebooks

The Escondido Public Library has received 25 Chromebooks as part of a pilot project. Library card holders may check out a Chromebook for up to 90 minutes per day at the Adult or Children’s Information desks. They are available on a first-come, first-served basis for use in the library, and there is no fee for check out.

Chromebooks are fast, lightweight laptops based on Google’s Chrome web browser. They use cloud computing for storage, and users may log in with their Google account to access a world of apps or log in anonymously to simply access the web. Chromebooks do not require manual updating or antivirus software so they are considered simple-to-use alternatives to regular laptops.

Library card holders needing to use a computer in the library or who are just interested in exploring the difference between a Chromebook and a regular computer are invited to visit one of the Information desks. Borrowers must sign a User Loan Agreement before using a Chromebook.

The California State Library awarded a grant to the Califa Library Group, a non-profit library consortium, to distribute the Chromebooks to public libraries throughout the state. Escondido is thrilled to be one of the recipients of this technology grant. For more information, please call Digital Services Manager, Donna Feddern at 760-839-4624.
