2nd Tuesday Book Club Discusses Me Before You by Jojo Moyes

Escondido, CA - Escondido Public Library invites adult readers to join the 2nd Tuesday Book Club meeting on Tuesday, June 9, 2015, at 6:00 p.m. in the Turrentine Room. This month’s title is Me Before You by Jojo Moyes.

Louisa Clark is an ordinary girl living an exceedingly ordinary life with a steady boyfriend and a close knit family. She has never been farther afield than her tiny village. Then, Louisa takes a badly-needed job working for ex–Master of the Universe, Will Traynor, who is wheelchair-bound after an accident. Will has always lived a huge life—big deals, extreme sports, worldwide travel, but now he’s pretty sure he doesn’t want to continue living.  Though Will is acerbic, moody, and bossy, Louisa refuses to treat him with kid gloves, and soon his happiness means more to her than she expected. When she learns that Will has shocking plans of his own, Louisa sets out to show him that life is still worth living.

The 2nd Tuesday Book Club will continue on July 14, 2015, with Nocturnes: Five Stories of Music and Nightfall by Kazuo Ishiguro.  This selection coordinates with the 2015 Adult Summer Reading Club musical theme “Read to the Rhythm.” Join Escondido Public Library’s Adult Summer Reading Club, which runs from June 15—August 1, 2015. Sign up online at or in the Library at the Information Desk. Summer reading programming includes special musical events and weekly prize drawings for Club participants.

All Library programs are generously sponsored by Friends of the Escondido Public Library and free to the public. Escondido Public Library is located at 239 South Kalmia Street in downtown Escondido.  For more information about the 2nd Tuesday Book Club, or the “Read to the Rhythm” 2015 Adult Summer Reading Club, visit or contact the Library information desk at 760-839-4839.

Bilingual Book Discussion Group Meets at Escondido Public Library

Escondido, CA - Rincón Literario (The Literary Corner), Escondido Public Library’s Bilingual Book Discussion Group, will meet on Saturday, May 30, 2015, from 3:30 – 4:45 p.m. in the Library’s Turrentine Room. Una y otra vez/Life After Life by Kate Atkinson, is the selected book for May. Participants discuss books bilingually, in English and Spanish. Multiple copies of the selected title are available and can be reserved in the Escondido Public Library catalog.

Una y otra vez/Life After Life is the captivating story of Ursula Todd, a woman who dies repeatedly in a variety of ways.  Ursula Todd first dies when she is just being born to Hugh and Sylvie Todd at their home in Fox Corner, England, on a bitterly cold, snowy night in February 1910.  However, Ursula’s death is not an ending but the beginning of a series of reincarnations and the chance to experience several different lives and destinies.

Cecy Rayphole, Rincón Literario facilitator, commented, “Book discussions bring people together to share their views, but also to experience different perspectives and cultures, and to discover what they have in common. Rincón Literario is an excellent forum for this exchange and also provides a great opportunity to practice or improve reading or speaking in either English or Spanish in a comfortable setting.” Rincón Literario will meet next month, on Saturday, June 27, 2015, to discuss the classic, Cumbres borrascosas/Wuthering Heights, by Emily Bronte.

Rincón Literario is made possible by generous support from Friends of the Escondido Public Library. This program is free and open to the public. To access the book in the Library catalog, and for more information about future Rincón Literario selections and other Library programs, visit or contact Cecy Rayphole, Senior Library Associate, at 760-839-4271 or at
