Escondido Public Library Hosts Overdrive Digital Bookmobile National Tour Event

The Overdrive Digital Bookmobile National Tour (www.digitalbookmobile.com) will showcase Escondido Public Library’s free eBook download service on Wednesday, March 12, 2014, from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM. The Digital Bookmobile is housed inside a high-tech, 18-wheel tractor-trailer which will be stationed in the Escondido Public Library parking lot (south lot). Readers of all ages can learn how to download eBooks from the Library through interactive demonstrations and high-definition instructional videos. A gadget gallery—featuring Kindle®, iPad®,  Android™ tablet, NOOK™, Sony® Reader™, BlackBerry®, Windows® Phone, and more—will help visitors experience and compare portable devices that are compatible with the Library’s eBook service.

Library card holders can check out and download digital titles anytime, anywhere by visiting http://library.escondido.org/ebooks. Patrons can take advantage of this download service 24/7 when they visit the Library’s website. From there, they can browse the growing collection of bestselling, new release, and classic titles, and check out a digital title with a valid library card. Once downloaded, digital titles can be enjoyed on a computer or transferred to supported mobile devices. At the end of the lending period, titles will automatically expire and are returned to the digital collection. The advantages of eBooks are that they are easy to download and enjoy, and they never incur late fees or damage charges.

“Escondido Public Library is pleased to offer eBooks in our catalog, and our collection is growing,” said City Librarian Loretta McKinney, “Every month we add new titles for adults, teens, and children. I hope people will drop by the Digital Bookmobile for a little “tech time” and learn how easy it is to download a book to their favorite device. Look for the big blue truck in our parking lot on March 12th, rain or shine. We’re happy to reach out to the community and share new digital reading options.”

This program is free and open to the public. The Escondido Public Library is located at 239 South Kalmia Street, Escondido CA 92025. For more information, please call (760) 839-4839 or visit the Library online at http://library.escondido.org to learn about other upcoming Library programs.

2nd Tuesday Book Club to Discuss The Light Between Oceans by M. L. Stedman

02/11/2014 Categories: Adults Book Club

Escondido, CA - Escondido Public Library invites adult readers to join the 2nd Tuesday Book Club meeting on Tuesday, March 11, 2014, at 6:00 PM in the Board Room. This month’s selection is The Light Between Oceans by M. L. Stedman.

Tom Sherbourne is a lighthouse keeper on Janus Rock, a tiny island a half day’s boat journey from the coast of Western Australia.  When a baby washes up in a rowboat, he and his young wife Isabel decide to raise the child as their own. The baby seems like a gift from God, and the couple’s reasoning for keeping her seduces the reader into entering the waters of treacherous morality even as Tom--whose moral code withstood the horrors of World War I--begins to waver.

The 2nd Tuesday Book Club will continue on April 8, 2014, with a discussion on the nonfiction title, Quiet: the power of introverts in a world that can’t stop talking by Susan Cain.  The selection for May 13, 2014, will be The Orchardist by Amanda Coplin.

This program is sponsored by the Friends of Escondido Public Library. All Library programs are free and open to the public. Escondido Public Library is located at 239 South Kalmia Street in downtown Escondido. For more information about the 2nd Tuesday Book Club visit library.escondido.org or contact the Library information desk at 760-839-4839.
