Escondido, CA – Escondido Public Library’s Burritos & Book Club for teens ages 13-18, meets on Saturday, March 18, 2017, in the Turrentine Room from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda, by Becky Albertalli, is the selected title and copies are available for checkout at the Library’s Information Desk or can be reserved using the Library’s online catalog at library.escondido.org. Students at Escondido High School, San Pasqual High School, and Orange Glen High School can also check out copies at their school library.
Sixteen-year old Simon is not one to step out of his comfort zone or be in the spotlight, unless he is starring in the school musical. When his personal email falls into the wrong hands, Simon is blackmailed by another student and must comply or else his secrets will become public knowledge. He must find the courage to be who he is, no matter what the cost. “Rife with realistic, high school relationships and drama, with a laugh or two at every turn, this is a coming-of-age, coming-out, and defying-the-odds story with which many teens will identify.” – School Library Journal.
After discussing Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda, teens can share other books they have enjoyed and select the next Burritos & Book Club title. Complimentary burritos will be provided, and all participants receive a free book or audiobook at the end of the program. The next meeting will be held on Saturday, May 20, 2017.
