Tracked

by Jenny Martin
04/09/2016 Categories: action sci fi suspense

Earth as we know it has changed. The climate has become unstable, unsafe (in most areas) for human life. Major corporates now rule the land and oppress the people. Welcome to the world of Tracked. Phoebe Van Zant is a 17-year-old rally racer, the best on the streets. Her many victories catch the attention of Charles Benroyal, an owner of the most powerful corporation. She and her best friend, Bear, are blackmailed into joining Benroyal to race for him. When Phoebe finds out the Benroyal is playing a more dire game than she figures, it's up to Phoebe and her rebel friends to dethrone Benroyal and restore Earth to its former glory.

This book was amazing. There was plenty of action in the book along with adrenaline-pumping details of races. This book is something to die for.

The world in Tracked is almost exactly the same as the world in Hunger Games. Substitute the Games for rally racing, President Snow for Charles Benroyal, Gale for Bear, Peeta for Prince Cash, Katniss Everdeen for Phoebe Van Zant, and you've got the general idea of its similarities. For those who love Hunger Games, this is the book for you.

Miles Halter is a teenage boy from Florida who decides to spend his junior year of high school at Culver Creek Boarding School in Alabama. He says that he is going to seek the "great perhaps," something more than himself. Everything changes for Miles when he meets Alaska Young, a girl with a troubled past. The book takes Miles and his new friends on an unforgettable journey that teaches them about the greater truths the world holds.

Looking for Alaska is one of the best books I've ever read. It makes you consider how in a flash, your entire life could change. It is extremely inspirational and well written. The characters in the book were so detailed and I almost felt like I knew them.

I would definitely recommend this book to young people, teens especially. I think that teenagers will definitely be able to relate to at least one aspect of the book. If you like stories that are emotional and about life, then Looking for Alaska is something you would enjoy.

Lord Sunday

by Garth Nix
10/12/2015 Categories: adventure fantasy magic suspense

Image result for lord sundayLord Sunday is the conclusion to a seven-book series, where Arthur Penhaligon has to save Earth, and the new world he was thrown into. He has defeated most of the people in his way, and Lord Sunday is the last one to remain. He is also the strongest, and Arthur finds him to be the most difficult to defeat. The ending of this book is a major twist from what was expected, and leaves you wondering what happens next.

I liked this book very much, because it was exciting to read, and made you feel like you were actually there. There was also a lot of suspense and surprises throughout, which made it interesting to read.

I would recommend this to others who like to read suspenseful books, and enjoy plot twists near endings. People who like books who leave you thinking would enjoy this as well. The ending is a bit sad, so if sadder endings aren't for you, you might not like this book.

10/12/2015 Categories: adventure fantasy magic suspense

Image result for superior saturdaySuperior Saturday is about a boy, Arthur Penhaligon, who is trying to save the parallel universe that he was thrown into. In order to do that, he must defeat Lady Saturday and take a key from her. To find the key, he must use the previous ones he has gathered and attempt to find the "Will," an entity that will assist him. He must also come to terms with transforming away from humanity, and having to become the hero he never wanted to be.

This book was an interesting one to read, because it really goes into the magic of the other world, how things worked and how easy it was to break. The different perspectives also made it interesting, while also adding to the suspense.

I would recommend this book to people who enjoy suspenseful books, and/or find it easy to follow multiple perspectives throughout the book. If the sudden changes are hard to follow for you, it might not be the right book for you.

Fortunately, Willa befriends Cherise, a girl who belongs to a popular group. Willa then decides to start stealing money from rich kids and starts giving it to three other girls who are bullied based on the way they dress.

I personally liked this book because there is suspense, and a bit of action. I also liked it because there were a lot of cliff hangers and it made me want to read the next book in the series right away.

I would recommend this book to anyone who likes a book full of suspense, friendship, romance, and action.

Against all odds, Katniss Everdeen has survived the Hunger Games twice. But now that she's made it out of the bloody arena alive, she's still not safe. A revolution is unfolding, and it is up to Katniss to accept responsibility for countless lives and to change the course of the future of Panem.

I absolutely loved the book. It was simply amazing. I really liked this book because of the love story and the fight scenes it had.

Yes, I would recommend this book to others of an older age of about 12 because of some the the intense fight scenes and the sort of love triangle that goes on. But over all I really like this book.

Catching Fire

by Suzanne Collins
09/29/2015 Categories: action dating drama dystopia suspense

The 75th Annual Hunger Games. The tributes were chosen from the existing pool of victors from each district. District 12 only has three victors indicating that Katniss Everdeen will have to go into the arena once again along with Peeta Mellark who volunteered for Haymitch. They will have to fight for their lives again.

I really enjoyed the book Catching Fire because it was so well written, it could easily be imagined. The book was so intriguing, it had sudden changes in the events and unpredictable outcomes. With the character Katniss there was a great example of what true will power, determination, power, and bravery.

I would recommend this book to all. It has a bit of everything in it. I'd advise those who love books that make you imagine the scenarios and love action packed books Catching Fire is definitely the book for you.

Things Not Seen

by Andrew Clements
04/27/2015 Categories: body image handicaps sci fi suspense

Things Not SeenThings Not Seen is about a teenage boy named Bobby who wakes up one day and discovers that he's invisible. When the police get involved with his unique (or is it unique?) situation he has to learn how to survive in a world where people are frightened by the unusual. Will Bobby ever become visible again? Or will he have to stay this way forever, lonely and isolated from everyone but the ones closest to him?

I like this book because it shows how people view things differently. When Alicia meets Bobby she thinks he's just a normal person because she's blind. Everyone else, on the other hand, freaked out when they heard or felt Bobby, but didn't see him.

I would recommend this book because it's good and interesting to think about things from different perspectives. People who like science fiction with a little bit of suspense would probably like this book.

Legend

by Marie Lu
03/24/2015 Categories: action romance suspense war

Legend“If you want to rebel, rebel from inside the system. That’s much more powerful than rebelling outside the system”(Metias, p. 245). Legend is the story of two teens living in a dystopian society who team up to stop the madness going on between the Republic and the Colonies and stop a harmful sickness known as the plague.

After reading Legend, by Marie Lu, I thought it was an amazing book. It was filled with action, suspense, drama, and more. It kept you on the edge of your seat, begging to know what happens next. Marie Lu has a way with her description, that allows you to envision the setting, characters, and plot. I admired the way Legend was written because it showed you both of the character's perspectives and how different they are.

I would strongly recommend this book to readers who love books that are filled with suspense, action, and romance. I would also recommend it to people ages 13 and up because of the violence and romantic scenes.

In this futuristic book, Tom Raines and his friends are 99.9% human, with that 0.1% being part computer. The Body Finder

by Kimberly Derting
06/18/2013 Categories: murder romance serial killer suspense

Body finderThis book details the life of teenager Violet Ambrose, who has had a gift- an ability to sense the bodies of the dead, ever since she was a child. When a serial killer begins to terrorize the town she lives in, Violet has to put this gift to use, while at the same time falling in love with her best friend Jay, and coping with the challenges high school presents.

I really liked this book. The Body Finder is a novel full of both romance and suspense, but they fit well together and enhanced the book. The novel went by at just the right place, and the characters were generally pretty believable. Interestingly, it tells the perspective of not only Violet, but the serial killer as well. The author wrote in a way that made you feel the emotion in the book.

I highly recommend this book for its outstanding writing. Those wanting a solid suspenseful love story will be pleased with The Body Finder. Once you pick it up, it's hard to put down.

She learns that her biological family belongs to a race of cat-like people called the Mai. The book follows Chloe as she discovers more about her past and has to make hard decisions about her future.
