Gone Girl

by Gillian Flynn

Gone girl : a novel

Gone Girl is a young adult novel that takes place in current times. It details the aftermath of Amy Dunne’s disappearance and her husband Nick looking like the obvious suspect. The book flips through the two perspectives of Amy’s diary entry before she went missing and Nick in the present. Gone Girl is constantly interesting with its big twists and themes of mystery, suspense and revenge.

I adored this book. Flynn was able to capture how some women may feel in society and what would happen if they decided to exact their revenge. She was easily able to bring the emotions and feelings of the characters off the page with their realistic motives and flaws. I enjoyed how Gone Girl’s changing perspectives made you question what really is the truth and if people are really who they present themselves as.

I would recommend this book for a mature audience. The book has dark themes and strong language. Despite this, the book makes the reader question what really is the truth in a fun and entertaining way.

The Sisterhood

by A.J. Grainger

The sisterhood

It was about two sisters, the older one went missing and the other sister blamed herself and would not stop looking for her sister until she was found. She found another girl in the middle of the road and brought her to her home and realized this girl might know where her sister is.

I really enjoyed it because it was similar to murder mystery and the book was really intriguing. It makes me realize that I may not have forever with someone so I need to spend my time with them wisely.

I would really recommend the book The Sisterhood by A.J. Grainger to anyone who really enjoys mysteries. For anyone who is into horror or missing stories.

The Shining

by Stephen King

The shining

A fairly dysfunctional family has to stay together in a hotel cut off from the rest of the world for the summer. This hotel is infested by an evil spirit, one the young son of the family has many harsh encounters with. Danny, the boy, has a special ability, one this evil desperately wants.

The Shining is a thrilling book because the way Stephen King writes the different characters' perspectives provides insight into so many things. How the hotel begins to take over Jack's mind. How terrifying the nightmares that 'Tony' brings for Danny. How the survival instinct of a mom kicks in when her son is in danger. It dives deeper than a simple horror story.

If you like horror, the slow spread of insanity, and supernatural evils, then you would enjoy The Shining by Stephen King.

Death in Her Hands

by Ottessa Moshfegh

Death in her hands

The book followed an elderly women finding a note about a dead body in her woods. The majority of the story takes place in the women's mind and her thoughts, as she creates a story for the unknown victim. She ventures to uncover the mystery.

The book isn't unbearable, but it wasn't my favorite. It lacked a lot of action and just took place in the women's mind. Towards the end the book got a little more exciting, but the ending was rather lackluster.

I would recommend the book to those who read a little bit of everything. It's an interesting concept. I would not recommend to someone who is more interested in stories.

Verity

by Colleen Hoover

Verity

Verity is a thriller book that keeps you on the edge of your seat, waiting for the next thing to happen. The book is about a man that lost everything and is trying to fix it. The ghost writer comes to visit his house to learn about his wife. While she’s visiting she finds something not related to the book at all but will change everything.

Verity is a intense book that’s amazing. Once you start reading you can’t stop because you want to know what happens next. Verity has lots of jump scares in book version. It’s a great thriller book.

I would recommend the book to anyone that likes to solve the mystery before the book ends, that’s very passionate about things and tries to find evidence to back it up. This is definitely for horror and thriller lovers. I’d recommend if you want to be scared a little and have a debate with others that read it.
