Escondido Public Library Presents 10 Steps to Financial Success

Escondido, CA – Escondido Public Library, in collaboration with San Diego County Credit Union, will host a money management workshop on Wednesday, April 26, 2017 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the Library’s Turrentine Room.

Discover how to make educated financial decisions based on clear priorities by following 10 easy steps. Learn how to establish financial goals, create a spending and savings plan, organize financial documents, and ultimately delete your debt. Space is limited and early arrival is encouraged.

2nd Tuesday Book Club Discusses Circling the Sun by Paula McClain

Escondido, CA - Escondido Public Library invites adult readers to join the 2nd Tuesday Book Club meeting on April 11, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. in the Turrentine Room. This month’s selection is Circling the Sun by Paula McClain. Copies of the book are available for check out and may be reserved in the Library catalog at library.escondido.org.

Circling the Sun is a fascinating portrayal of Beryl Markham, a complex and strong-willed woman in 1920s Africa. An author and aviator, Beryl was a determined woman who wouldn’t let social conventions stand in the way of her achieving her dreams. This fictionalized biography is a New York Times bestseller full of surprises. Through the facilitated discussion readers may discover new perspectives and share impressions with other dedicated readers. The 2nd Tuesday Book Club always welcomes new and returning participants.

Escondido Public Library’s 2nd Saturday Concert Series Presents Adrienne Nims and Spirit Wind

Escondido, CA - Escondido Public Library’s 2nd Saturday Concert Series proudly presents Adrienne Nims and Spirit Wind on Saturday, April 8, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. in Escondido Library’s Turrentine Room. Adrienne Nims and Spirit Wind play high-energy contemporary and world jazz using Native American, Indian, African and Asian flutes and percussion, as well as more traditional jazz instrumentation. The 2nd Saturday Concert Series runs through May 2017 and features an array of classical, jazz, and other diverse musical styles. On May 13, 2nd Saturday Concert Series concludes the 2016/2017 season with classical duo Minna Han & Joo-in Lee.

Escondido Public Library Celebrates Local Writing for National Library Week

Escondido, CA – A celebration of local writers and authors, Escondido Writers Group Presents: Open Mic!, will be held at the Escondido Public Library on Saturday, April 15, 2017 from 1:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. in the Turrentine Room. Emerging and established writers of all genres are invited to participate and share their work with other writers and audience members in this creative and supportive environment.

The American Library Association’s National Library Week takes place April 9-15, 2017, to raise awareness of the resources, programs, and services offered by libraries everywhere. As a part of the observance, Escondido Public Library will host a special edition of its monthly Escondido Writers Group meeting, an “open mic” event to celebrate local writing. Participants are encouraged to bring samples of their current writing projects to share and receive constructive feedback. Writers who want to read their work aloud are required to arrive at 12:30 p.m. to sign up.

Escondido Public Library’s Rincón Literario Book Club Meets in March

Escondido, CA - Rincón Literario (The Literary Corner), Escondido Public Library’s Bilingual Book Discussion Group, will meet on Saturday, March 25, 2017 from 3:30 – 4:45 p.m. in the Turrentine Room to discuss this month’s selection, El ruiseñor/The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah in both English and Spanish. The book is available for check-out in English and Spanish, and in a variety of formats, including print and eBook. Copies can be reserved at library.escondido.org.

New York Times bestselling author Kristin Hannah returns with a detailed historical fiction drama that follows two French sisters as they explore their own path to survival, love, and freedom during World War II.

Escondido Public Library’s 2nd Saturday Concert Series Presents Virtual Strangers

Escondido, CA - Virtual Strangers will bring high energy bluegrass to Escondido Public Library’s 2nd Saturday Concert Series, March 11, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. in the Turrentine Room. Virtual Strangers will play their award winning music in the tradition of bluegrass legends such as Earl Monroe and Flatt and Scruggs.

Virtual Strangers is a highly talented bluegrass band made up of Mike Tatar, Sr. on banjo; Yvonne Tatar on bass; guitarist Kit Birkett; and Jon Cherry on mandolin. They have played bluegrass festivals throughout the Western United States, and their three-part harmonies and driving beats have earned them top honors in the 4 Corners Band Contest, the Arizona Bluegrass Band contest, and the Southwest Bluegrass Play-offs.

The 2nd Saturday Concert Series runs through May 2017 and features an array of classical, jazz, and other diverse musical styles. On April 8, 2017, the 2nd Saturday Concert Series welcomes Adrienne Nims and the Spirit Wind Trio.

2nd Tuesday Book Club Discusses Inside the O’Briens by Lisa Genova

Escondido, CA - Escondido Public Library invites adult readers to join the 2nd Tuesday Book Club meeting on March 14, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. in the Turrentine Room. This month’s selection is Inside the O’Briens by Lisa Genova. Copies of the book are available for check out and may be reserved in the Library catalog at library.escondido.org.

When family patriarch Joe O’Brien is diagnosed with Huntington’s Disease, a fatal disorder with no cure, his family is stunned. Joe eventually is stripped of his police badge as his symptoms worsen. His adult children must decide whether to be tested for Huntington’s and face their sentence, or live with the anxiety of not knowing. Throughout this struggle, Inside the O’Briens beautifully examines the resilience of the human spirit.
