Escondido Public Library’s 2nd Saturday Concert Series Presents The Peter Sprague Trio

Escondido, CA – Escondido Public Library’s 2nd Saturday Concert Series welcomes the New Year with the Peter Sprague Trio performing Brazilian-style jazz on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. in the Turrentine Room. The trio features virtuoso guitarist Peter Sprague, singer and percussionist Leonard Patton, and accomplished saxophonist Tripp Sprague. Influenced by Latin jazz pioneers such as Chick Corea and Sergio Mendes, the group has combined their deep love of Brazilian music, American pop, and jazz to create a sound and style uniquely their own.

The February 11, 2017 concert will present the return of San Diego Opera’s “Opera Exposed!” with Dr. Nicholas Reveles and a talented group of soloists. Escondido Public Celebrates the Holidays with the San Diego Chamber Music Society Brass Quartet

Escondido, CA – The San Diego Chamber Music Society Brass Quartet will perform holiday music at Escondido Public Library’s 2nd Saturday Concert on December 10, 2016 at 3:00 PM in the Turrentine Room. To celebrate the season, the program will feature traditional carols and favorites, such as “Let it Snow”, “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer”, and “Winter Wonderland.” The quartet is comprised of two trumpets, a French horn and a trombone, featuring members who are also associated with the La Jolla Symphony Orchestra, Cabrillo Chamber Orchestra and Chamber Orchestra of Baja California.

The 2nd Saturday Concert Series runs through May 2016 with a line-up of diverse musical styles from classical to jazz. The January 14, 2017 concert presents the Peter Sprague Trio, performing Brazilian-style jazz combined with American pop and jazz for a unique and exciting sound. Escondido Public Library Announces the 2016-2017 2nd Saturday Concert Series Schedule

Escondido, CA – Escondido Public Library announces the scheduled performers for the 2016 –2017 2nd Saturday Concert Series season, opening on November 12, 2016. Free musical performances will be held on the second Saturday of each month from 3:00 – 4:30 p.m. from November 2016 through May 2017. All performances take place in the Library’s Turrentine Room.

December 10, 2016            San Diego Chamber Music Society Brass Quartet

The Q-Ban Street Band opens the season with pulsing Cuban Salsa, Bachata, and Timba music on, November 12, 2016. Bachata is a popular guitar-based, dance music that originated in the Dominican Republic; Timba, is based on classic Cuban music, along with salsa, American funk/R&B, and the strong influence of Afro-Cuban folkloric music. Maritza Baida, special guest and director of Baila Cubano San Diego, will show interested audience members some Cuban dances while her dance group demonstrates moves to the beat of the Q-Ban Street Band.

Escondido Public Library’s 2nd Saturday Concert Series Presents the Jazz Duo MandoBasso

Escondido, CA – Jazz duo MandoBasso will perform at Escondido Public Library on Saturday, May 14, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. in the Turrentine Room. The duo features Emmy award-winning composer Bill Bradbury on mandolin and Gunnar Biggs on bass. Their performances include original compositions, classical music, jazz, and ragtime. Following the May concert, the 2nd Saturday Concert Series will take a hiatus until next fall. The annual Summer Reading Challenge for kids, teens, and adults runs from June 13 to July 31, 2016 and provides ample opportunities for community members of all ages to Exercise Your Mind through free educational, recreational, and cultural programs. Escondido Public Library’s 2nd Saturday Concert Series Presents String Quartet Quartetto Sorrento

Escondido, CA - String quartet Quartetto Sorrento will perform at the Escondido Public Library on Saturday, April 9, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. in the Turrentine Room. Violinists Paula Simmons, Ondrei Lewitt, Michael Dvoskin and cellist Gordon Grubbs perform classical music by composers ranging from Haydn and Mozart to Shostakovich, Debussy, and Thompson. Escondido Public Library’s 2nd Saturday Concert Series Presents Judy Taylor and The Wild Oats

Escondido, CA – The multitalented Judy Taylor will perform at Escondido Public Library with her country swing band, The Wild Oats, on Saturday, March 12th, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. in the Turrentine Room.  

Judy Taylor and The Wild Oats will showcase their blend of country, Cajun, and rock and roll music. Taylor’s talents include trick roping, gun slinging, bullwhip cracking, and of course, guitar playing. Learn more at judytaylormusic.com. Love Your Escondido Public Library this February

Escondido, CA – Love is in the air this February at Escondido Public Library. Throughout Love Your Library month, community members of all ages are encouraged to visit the Library and share the love with the following events.

    Don’t judge a book by its cover! Visit the Library’s displays during open hours, and go on a blind date with a fantastic read. Selected titles are wrapped and decorated with clues as part of this literary guessing game. You may just find your perfect match!

    POUND Rockout Workout

Escondido Public Library’s 2nd Saturday Concert Series Presents Bluegrass Band, MohaviSoul

Escondido, CA - Bluegrass band MohaviSoul will perform at Escondido Public Library on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. in the Turrentine Room.  

MohaviSoul was founded by guitarist Mark Miller and mandolinist Randy Hanson, who describes their songs as “filled with bluegrass, jazz, blues, and country instrumental riffs.” Learn more about MohaviSoul and sample their musical stylings at http://mohavisoul.com/.

Escondido Public Library’s 2nd Saturday Concert Series Presents Opera Exposed! with Dr. Nicolas Reveles

Escondido, CA - Opera Exposed!, a program of operatic selections, will be performed at Escondido Public Library on Saturday, January 9th, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. in the Turrentine Room. Emerging vocalists perform selections from familiar operas to entertain and educate, as well as to promote the San Diego Opera’s 2016 season.

San Diego Opera’s Opera Exposed! program is made up of undergraduate singers from the University of San Diego, Point Loma Nazarene University, and San Diego State University enthusiastically spreading knowledge and the joy of opera!” said Dr. Nicholas Reveles, the San Diego Opera Company’s Director of Education and Community Engagement. Dr. Reveles will accompany the singers on piano and provide commentary on the great stories behind operas such as ToscaMadame Butterfly, and Great Scott.

The 2nd Saturday Concert Series runs through May 2016 and features an array of classical, jazz, and other diverse musical styles. February’s concert presents Mohavi Soul, performing traditional bluegrass and original music by guitarist Mark Miller and mandolinist Randy Hanson.

Escondido, CA —Celebrate the holidays Renaissance-style at the Escondido Public Library’s 2nd Saturday Concert featuring Courtly Noyse on Saturday, December 12, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. in the Library’s Turrentine Room. Courtly Noyse members are skilled Renaissance musicians who play a wide variety of unique instruments such as the recorder, viola da gamba, mandolin, and vielle.
