Escondido Public Library Opens the 2014-15 2nd Saturday Concert Series with Peter Fletcher, Classical Guitarist

Escondido, CA – Escondido Public Library launches the 2014-15 2nd Saturday Concert Series with classical guitarist Peter Fletcher on Saturday, November 8, 2014, at 3:00 p.m. in the Turrentine Room. Peter Fletcher is an internationally renowned guitar virtuoso with performances that carry on the tradition of guitar masters such as Segovia and Bream.

With a repertoire ranging from Bach to Edvard Grieg, Peter Fletcher, has performed nationally in prestigious venues, such as Carnegie Hall, the Chicago Cultural Center, and the Firehouse Arts Center in the San Francisco Bay Area. Fanfare Magazine says he has impressed these audiences with “unaffected musical poetry.” His critically acclaimed CDs include, The Art of Classical Guitar: A Peter Fletcher Recital, Federico Mompou: Guitar Works, and Peter Fletcher Plays Baroque Music for Guitar. His latest CD is Edvard Grieg for which he wrote the guitar transcriptions. According to Concert Presenter, “He performs the music with commitment, passion, and grace. Escondido Public Library’s 2nd Saturday Concert Series Presents the San Diego Chorus

Escondido, CA – Escondido Public Library’s 2nd Saturday Concert Series presents the San Diego Chorus on Saturday, May 10, 2014, at 3:00 PM in the Turrentine Room.

The San Diego Chorus has been entertaining audiences with their vocal excellence, energy, and dazzling show performances for over 60 years. The Chorus is made up of women from all over San Diego County, ranging in age from 14 to 80 years. They are part of Sweet Adelines International, a worldwide society of women who sing four-part, a capella harmony (barbershop style). Their repertoire is American music in many styles and from many eras. For over twenty years, they have been directed by Kim Bone Vaughn. Ms. Vaughn is a quartet champion in her own right, having won the coveted International Quartet Champion title three times.

Escondido Public Library’s 2nd Saturday Concert Series Presents the Jaime Valle Trio

Escondido, CA – Escondido Public Library’s 2nd Saturday Concert Series presents the Jaime Valle Trio’s high energy Latin jazz on Saturday, April 12, 2014, at 3:00 PM in the Turrentine Room. The Jaime Valle Trio features Jaime Valle on guitar, Gunnar Biggs on bass, and Richard Sellers on drums.

Award-winning jazz guitarist Jaime Valle has performed in jazz festivals worldwide with such luminaries as Steve Allen, Frankie Laine, and Sammy Davis Jr. Valle has won 14 San Diego Music Awards (SDMAs), including awards for “Musician of the Year,” “Best Latin Jazz,” and “Best Jazz Album.” Valle is the single biggest winner in the SDMA’s history and his virtuoso jazz guitar work has earned him a loyal, local following. He is known nationally as one of the guiding lights of Latin jazz.

Escondido Public Library’s 2nd Saturday Concert Series Presents Bunnell Strings

Escondido, CA – Escondido Public Library’s 2nd Saturday Concert Series presents Bunnell Strings, a classical string quintet, on Saturday, March 8, 2014, at 3:00 PM in the Turrentine Room. Bunnell Strings features Keren, Kimberly, Corrie, Cara, and Ross Bunnell in a rare ensemble of double bass, cello, viola, and two violins.

Bunnell Strings is composed of an energetic and youthful string quintet of five siblings, ranging from 18-24 years in age. Their familial bond elicits tremendous audience response, both for the remarkable ensemble interaction and their compelling story. The music takes on a life of its own as Bunnell Strings dazzles audiences with fresh energy and sound. Their extensive repertoire of stringed instrument performance styles makes them accessible to young and old alike.

Escondido Public Library’s 2nd Saturday Concert Series Presents Hawaiian Music Duo Nalukai

Escondido, CA – Escondido Public Library’s 2nd Saturday Concert Series presents, Nalukai, a Hawaiian music duo, on Saturday, February 8, 2014, at 3:00 PM in the Turrentine Room. Nalukai features Desi Relator on guitar and vocals and David Babcock on congas, performing favorite contemporary and classic tropical tunes.

Born and raised on Oahu, Hawaii, Nalukai’s Relator and partner, Babcock, have been performing Hawaiian-style music for the past 12 years. Their repertoire consists of popular music from Sinatra and Jack Johnson to Israel Kamakawiwoʻole. “Listening to them will make you feel as though you are riding the waves back in Hawaii,” says Paul Crouthamel, Adult Services Librarian.

Escondido Public Library’s 2nd Saturday Concert Series Presents the Neave Trio

Escondido, CA - The Neave Trio, a piano and string trio, will be performing on Saturday, December 14, 2013, at 3:00 PM in the Turrentine Room of Escondido Public Library.  This young, classical music trio, consisting of violinist Anna Williams, cellist Mikhail Veselov, and pianist Toni James, has been hailed by critics as an “up-and-coming ensemble” (WQXR Radio, New York City) and praised for its “heart on-sleeve performances” (Classical New Jersey).

The Neave Trio has enjoyed international concert and competition success spanning four continents, with recent notable performances in Guatemala, Belgium, and Russia, as well as a recital appearance at the British Embassy in Oslo, Norway.  They have performed in some of the world’s finest concert halls including Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall, Jordan Hall, and the Kodak Hall at Eastman Theatre. All rising young soloists, members of the Neave Trio have been recipients ofmajor classical music awards such as the Lillian Fuchs Chamber Music Prize, the Gartoff Foundation Prize, and Eastman Chamber Music Honors Prize.  They will be playing works by Ravel, Beethoven, Mozart, and others.

The FanFaire Foundation and Escondido Public Library’s 2nd Saturday Concert Series presents Harpist Alexandra Tibbitts

Escondido, CA - Harpist Alexandra Tibbitts will perform at Escondido Public Library on Saturday, November 9, 2013, at 3:00 PM in the Turrentine Room. Ms. Tibbitts began playing the harp when she was twelve years old and still has a passion for her music. She loves sharing that passion with audiences of all ages.

Ms. Tibbitts won the 2012 Soloist Competition at San Diego State University and in May 2013 she performed Debussy's Danses Sacre et Profane with the SDSU Symphony Orchestra. She serves as the Principal Harpist with the SDSU Wind Symphony and Symphony Orchestra. Her repertoire showcases the harp’s extraordinary range of sound and styles. Ms. Tibbitts will be performing works like Paganini’s Variations on a Theme, Lizotte’s Suite Galactique, Grandjany’s Rhapsodie, and Lecuona’s Malagueña. Flavia Pisco will join her on the violin in a duet of Saint-Saens’ Fantaise Opus. 124. Ms. Tibbitts will complement her performance with informative and entertaining commentaries on the harp and the music she is playing.

Josiah: Musical Storyteller and Artist Lecturer At Escondido Public Library

The Literacy and Lifelong Learning and Youth Services present the very talented Josiah and his Nature-Focus Program, targeted for school age children. In his Nature-Focus Program, Josiah demonstrates the beauty and wonders of nature with storytelling and interactive discussion and movements. Children are encouraged to actively participate in these rhythmic self-expressing exercises, while learning sounds and becoming educated in the changes of nature and the world around us. This family event will be held at the Escondido Public Library during National Library Week from 3:30PM – 4:30PM on Thursday, April 18th.

For the last 15 years, Josiah has been performing for schools, from pre-school to college level, at all types of organizations.He is a professional singer, songwriter and guitarist, and is accomplished on the piano, drum, native flute, and assorted percussion instruments.

The Escondido Public Library’s 2nd Saturday Concert Series presents Virtual Strangers

Virtual Strangers will be playing at the Escondido Public Library on Saturday April 13th, 2013 at 3:00 PM in the Turrentine Room of the Escondido Public Library. Virtual Strangers is a highly talented and energetic bluegrass band whose sound is a mixture of traditional bluegrass influenced by Ralph Stanley, Earl Monroe, and Flatt and Scruggs with more progressive material from Blue Highway, Lonesome River Band and some Del McCoury. A four piece band consisting of a banjo, a guitar, a mandolin, and a bass they still produce a nice three part harmony. They have played at many bluegrass festivals throughout California and the West taking top honors in several of them. Come join us in some foot-tapping music that lifts the spirit.

Escondido Public Library Presents the San Diego Symphony Performing a Linda and Shearn Platt Kinder Koncert

The Escondido Public Library invites grade school children to attend two Kinder Koncert performances by the San Diego Symphony,  Wednesday, February 14, 2013 at 10:00 AM and 11:15 AM in the Turrentine Room.

Conducted by Ken-David Masur, the Symphony will introduce children to the string instruments and  teach basic concepts such as melody, rhythm and harmony.  Linda and Shearn Platt Kinder Koncerts are designed to introduce the youngest listeners to classical music, instruments of the orchestra, and to the live concert experience. The San Diego Symphony samples some of music’s greatest composers including Benjamin Britten, Edward Elgar, Felix Mendelssohn, and more.

This program is made possible by the generous support from the Friends of the Escondido Public Library. All programs are free and open to the public.
