City of Glass

by Cassandra Clare
07/23/2013 Categories: demonology dystopia movie vampires

City of GlassCity of Glass is the third installment of Clare's The Mortal Instruments series, and follows Clary the heroin of the story as she travels to the City of Glass, the home of the Shawdowhunters, in order to find an antidote that will bring her mother back. Things become complicated as Valentine takes his plan into action, and invades the glass city with his demon army. Now the Downworlders and the Shadowhunters have to unite in order to survive, but will they be able to put their differences aside and fight among each other?

I really liked this book, I have been fascinated by this whole series and this installment did not disappoint. Clare's characters continue develop, especially Jace who continues to struggle with himself but at the end of the book is able to find some peace within himself. Like the previous books, Clare is able to capture both romance and action in a way that is captivating and keeps the reader at the edge of their set.

Overall the book is every well written and is full of the awesome characters and plot twists that readers have begun to expect from Clare. Like the previous two books, I would really recommend this book to people who are into the supernatural, action books that are still able to include some romance. I would also recommend this book to those that are thinking about watching the new movie for the City of Bones the first book in this series, because like they say " The book is always better than the movie."

City of Fallen Angels

by Cassandra Clare
01/14/2013 Categories: demonology fantasy paranormal romance vampires

City of Fallen Angels coverThe war against Valentine ended and the Clary won! So everything is supposed to be perfect since Jace and Clary can finally be together...except for the fact that Jace has started to act distant from Clary. There have also been mysterious deaths of Shadowhunters and the death of mundane babies who look suspiciously like they were trying to be turned into half demons.

I thought this book was..eh because it felt like it was kind of a letdown compared to City of Glass, which ended on a perfect note. Clary and Jace's relationship just seem to deteriorate because Jace didn't tell her this one secret which ultimately could have broken them up for good.

I would recommend it only if you have read the other books. But besides from that, it wasn't the best book in the world.

City of Ashes

by Cassandra Clare
01/14/2013 Categories: action demonology romance vampires

City of Ashes coverClary just wishes her life would go back to drawing and hanging out with Simon. Unfortunately, it can't after you find out that you're a Shadowhunter, your mom is in a coma, you might possibly be in love with your brother, and your own dad is basically evil.

I liked this book because it still had those hilarious characters. Plus, the combination of the action and romance is perfect. If you read City of Bones don't stop there! This book is just as good as the first. There are some great moments in this book where you just stop reading and go "Whoa!"

Demon Thief

by Darren Shan
10/22/2012 Categories: demonology horror siblings

Demon Thief coverWith the opening of a window into the demon world, Kernel discovers his powers as a Disciple and his mission to hunt the viciously powerful Demonata to the death.

It is a good book because the protagonist is changed from the first book and it explains how far a kid would go for his brother.

I recommend this book to anybody with a strong relationship with their family.

Lord Loss coverGrubitsch Grady has problems in school but he soon realizes that those are the least of his problems as he witnesses his family being murdered by a demon lord.

It was amazing because it introduces the Demonata series and you could visualize the story as you are reading it.

I recommend this book to anybody who can sleep late because once you pick up this book, you won't want to put it down.

The Runelords

by David Farland
07/11/2012 Categories: action demonology fantasy magic

Runelords coverThe Runelords was the story of the conflict between Raj Ahten, the man who wanted the world, and the kings of the nations who opposed him. Raj Ahten had taken thousands of endowments, which could magically make him faster, stronger, smarter, etc., than everyone else. But there is one threat to his power. Gaborn Val Orden, who is the next Earth King. He has the power to Choose people, and once he has done this, he can warn them of danger and keep them safe.

For the most part, this was a good book. However, it can get very confusing at times, and if you're not focused, you will have no idea what's going on. It was a clever new use of magic and the different creatures and monsters were thought out well. This is a nice read if you like longer fantasy books. If you like it, you will be forced to read the next seven books as the story never really ends with a final victory.

If you like epic fantasy, beasts, and battles, then you will most likely enjoy this book.

The Demon's Lexicon

by Sarah Rees Brennan
06/28/2012 Categories: action demonology magic suspense

Demon's Lexicon coverNick and Alan have always been on the run from magicians who are hunting them down. The magicians are after a charm that their mother possesses; sure, they can easily give it away and the chase might stop, but the charm is the only thing keeping their mother alive. One day, Jamie and Mae, neighbors from the house next door, arrive asking for help. Jamie had been marked by demons. Alan, the sweet sensitive one, wants to help them. Nick, the one who is always rough, the one who does all the fighting, the one who really doesn't care about anyone other than Alan, wants to get them far away, especially after Alan becomes marked. Now Alan and Nick have to kill two magicians in order to get the marks off and for the very first time, Nick and Alan are going to the magicians instead of running away from them. Nick is about to learn a secret that has been kept from him his entire life, a secret that will rock his world.

This book was amazing! You'll be glued to the book as the story takes you on an adventure filled with action and surprises that you may never see coming. The characters, Nick especially, are well written; they come to life and seem as real as life itself. When you reach the end, you'll find yourself wishing that the characters were real and you'll find yourself yearning for the sequel.

I would recommend this book to everyone who loves being surprised and is willing to fall in love with these characters. If you like action, adventure, and a story that drags you in with the characters, then you willl love this book.
