Escondido, CA – Escondido Public Library will offer Summer Reading Clubs for all ages, beginning on Monday, June 23, 2014. This year’s theme, “Paws to Read,” provides reading clubs, programs, activities, and events for every age group, from babies, preschoolers, and elementary school age children, to teens and adults. Registration opens on Monday, June 23, 2014 and participants can sign-up by visiting the Library or registering online through the Library’s website: library.escondido.org. Summer readers track their progress toward reading goals throughout the program. Children and teens read for prizes which are generously funded by Friends of the Escondido Public Library. Registration will continue through July 21, 2014 and the Summer Reading Club ends on August 2, 2014.
The Library’s Children’s Services Department urges families to gallop, crawl, or fly to the Library to attend weekly events for children, ages 4 to 12. Children’s Crafts will be held on Tuesdays at 2:00 PM on June 24, July 8, 15, 22, & 29, 2014. Special programs and events for children will be held on Thursdays at 2:00 PM.

- July 24 Wildlife Company
- July 31 Summer Reading Club Finale with author, Clint Perry
For the very youngest, the Library will hold “(p)awesome” weekly storytimes for babies.
Cindi Bouvier, Senior Librarian for Youth Services said, “With school out for summer, there will be plenty of free time for reading for fun. Summer reading is also important because it helps students retain their reading level achieved during the school year.”
‘Tweens and teens can also dig into good books, earn prizes, and attend special programs, such as, Burritos and Books, Games and Grub, Movie Night, and Craft Events! Teens that reach their reading goals will be invited to a special finale party.
Adults can join in the summer reading fun by participating in the 2nd Tuesday Book Club or Rincón Literario Bilingual Book Club. In addition, Adults Services has planned eBook safaris to help readers download library eBooks on to their favorite device. We Bought a Zoo (rated PG) will be featured on Movie night.
