On January 22, 2025, at approximately 03:23 a.m., the North Com Dispatch Center received a report of a possible fire in the 1500 block of E Washington Ave. and dispatched a structure fire response. The first arriving engine reported a single-story, single-family residence with heavy smoke and fire coming from the front windows. Due to the potential for the fire to spread and the threat to life and property, a working fire upgrade was requested.
Firefighters made quick access into the structure, searching for possible victims and extinguishing the fire. During firefighting operations, several large oxygen tanks were found venting in the structure. Firefighters removed the tanks to prevent them from exploding. The fire was extinguished in approximately 30 minutes. The fire caused major damage to the structure, and no injuries to firefighters or civilians occurred. In all 4 fire engines, 1 truck company, 1 rescue ambulance and 2 Battalion Chiefs responded to the fire.
Four adults and three children were displaced and assisted by the Red Cross. A gift card from the California Fire Foundation was provided for immediate emergency aid to the residents.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
