Construction Updates

Construction along Grand Avenue is progressing steadily to create a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere downtown! Over the next week, as weather permits, crews will continue to add landscaping along Subphases 1 and 2 and install decorative fencing in front of restaurants in Subphase 2. In Subphase 3, crews are pouring sidewalks and have paved the roundabout at the intersection of Broadway and Grand Avenue. Paving along Grand Avenue between Broadway and Maple will recommence when better weather returns. 

Weather Update: Construction teams will not be working during rain, which will delay planned work in the coming week. 

Traffic Reminders: Through traffic on Grand Avenue from Kalmia to Maple, including the intersection at Grand Avenue and Broadway, are closed. Alternative routes are available via Valley Parkway and 2nd Avenue. As you travel through the area, please be mindful of all traffic control signage and plan for additional travel time. If you are walking near Broadway, please be sure to stay on the designated pedestrian walkways. We appreciate your patience as our team wraps up the latest improvements along Grand Avenue.

Construction Details

The Grand Avenue Vision Project is all about preserving Escondido’s historic small-town look and feel while infusing new energy and vibrancy into the heart of Escondido. This exciting initiative aims to transform Grand Avenue into a welcoming and pedestrian-friendly corridor and boost the economic vitality of our downtown area. 

Construction Hours and Details 

Construction will take place Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. During construction, Grand Avenue will be closed to through traffic. However, pedestrian access will remain open to all businesses.  

Free parking is available throughout the duration of the project and can be found using the interactive parking map. Please be sure to observe all traffic control signs and do not move traffic cones or barriers. To help protect public safety, please remain on the designated pedestrian walkways.
