Temporary closures ahead as Escondido Creek Trail improvements progress
Upcoming work
Construction continues along the Creek Trail, with active work zones throughout the project area. Here's what to expect over the next two weeks:
- Placement of decomposed granite and geotextile fabric from Broadway to Hickory Streets
- Steel fence post installation from Broadway to Juniper Streets
- Cable railing installation from Broadway to Hickory Streets
- Storm drain work, excavation, fine grading and concrete forming for new walkways between Fig and Date Streets
- Irrigation work from Juniper to Fig Streets
- Trenching for electrical systems from Date to Harding Streets
- Excavation work from Date to Ash Streets
Trail users should anticipate the following impacts:
- Short-term closures during irrigation and decomposed granite placement work
- Eight (8) hour trail closures during crack sealing and seal coating
- Potential 24-hour closure of the north trail between Hickory and Harding Streets
- Flaggers will be on site to direct trail users during these temporary closures.
- Sewer repair (as part of a separate project) has closed the south side of the trail from Fig to Date Streets. Work is expected to last about one week.

Recently completed
Crews continued installing cable railing along the south side of the Creek Trail between Broadway and Juniper Streets. Irrigation system work progressed between Juniper and Fig Streets, along with ongoing electrical improvements throughout the area.
Crack sealing and seal coating began, with full-day trail closures implemented between Harmony Grove and Quince Street during application. Trenching operations between Juniper and Fig Streets resulted in temporary closures, with flaggers on site to safely guide trail users through the area.
Additional work completed over the past few weeks included:
- Demolition of the existing asphalt maintenance road on the north side of the creek from Date to Ash Streets
- Placement of geotextile fabric and decomposed granite, clearing and grubbing and excavation for new walkways
- Fine grading and forming for new concrete walkways
