Escondido, CA - Rincón Literario (The Literary Corner), Escondido Public Library’s Bilingual Book Discussion Group, will meet on Saturday, August 27, 2016, from 3:30 – 4:45 p.m. in the Turrentine Room. This month’s selection is Colm Tolbin’s New York Times bestselling novel, Brooklyn. Copies of the book are available for check-out in English and Spanish, and may be reserved in the Library catalog at library.escondido.org.
The acclaimed 2015 film, starring Saoirse Ronan, nominated for four Academy Awards, including Best Picture, is based on Brooklyn. It is the charming coming of age story of Eilis Lacey, a young woman from a small town in Ireland in the hard years following World War II. When an Irish priest from Brooklyn offers Eilis the opportunity to live and work in America, she decides she must go, even though it means leaving her fragile mother and charismatic sister behind. After a hard adjustment to American life, Eilis finds work and love in Brooklyn, but devastating news from Ireland threatens her chances of a happy future.
Senior Library Associate Cecy Rayphole will lead the discussion in both English and Spanish, and new members are always welcome. Rincón Literario will meet next month, on Saturday, September 24, 2016, to discuss Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.
Rincón Literario is made possible by generous support from Friends of the Escondido Public Library. This program is free and open to the public.
