Escondido, CA - Rincón Literario (The Literary Corner), Escondido Public Library’s bilingual book discussion group, will meet on Saturday, June 29th from 3:30 – 4:45 PM in the Library’s Board Room. Author and journalist, Miriam Ruvinskis, will lead the discussion in both English and Spanish.
In La distancia entre nosotros / The Distance Between Us the author, Reyna Grande, skillfully depicts another side of the immigrant experience—the hardships and heartbreaks of the children who are left behind. Through her brutally honest firsthand account of growing up in Mexico without her parents, Grande sheds light on the often overlooked consequence of immigration—the disintegration of a family.
“I encourage you to read this poignant memoir” said Adult Services Librarian Paul Crouthamel. “When you discuss a great book with others who have read it, you can share your perspectives and learn how other people might have interpreted the story differently. The discussions are a perfect way to discuss interesting books and converse in both languages”.
Rincón Literario meets regularly on the last Saturday of each month to explore literature published in English and Spanish. In July, Rincon Literario readers will discuss La Laguna / The Lacuna by Barbara Kingsolver.
Rincón Literario is made possible by generous support from the Friends of the Escondido Public Library. This program is free and open to the public.
