Escondido, CA - Rincón Literario (The Literary Corner), Escondido Public Library’s Bilingual Book Discussion Group, will meet on Saturday, November 19, 2016, from 3:30 – 4:45 p.m. in the Turrentine Room. This month’s selection is The Secret Book of Frida Kahlo/El libro secreto de Frida Kahlo by F.G. Haghenbeck. Copies of the book are available for check-out in English and Spanish, and may be reserved in the Library catalog at library.escondido.org.
When several notebooks were recently discovered among Frida Kahlo’s belongings at her home in Mexico City, acclaimed Mexican novelist F.G Haghenbeck was inspired to write this fictional account of Kahlo’s life. Haghenbeck takes the readers on a mystic journey through Frida’s passionate life: her tumultuous marriage to Diego Rivera, her artistic development, and her relationships with famous friends such as Georgia O’Keeffe, Ernest Hemingway, and Salvador Dalí. The book also features Frida’s famous recipes for everyone to enjoy this holiday season; pumpkin tamales, pan de muertos (Day of the Dead bread), and salsa borracha (drunken salsa), to name a few.
Senior Library Associate Cecy Rayphole will lead the discussion in both English and Spanish, and new members are always welcome. Rincón Literario will meet again on Saturday, January 28, 2017, to discuss Story of a Sociopath/Historia de un canalla by Julia Navarro.
