Bilingual Book Discussion Group Meets at Escondido Public Library

09/04/2014 Categories: Adults Book Club

Escondido, CA - Rincón Literario (The Literary Corner), Escondido Public Library’s Bilingual Book Discussion Group, will meet on Saturday, September 27, 2014, from 3:30 – 4:45 p.m. in the Turrentine Room. Don Quijote de la Mancha/Don Quixote, by Miguel de Cervantes, is the selected book for September.

Widely regarded as one of the funniest and most tragic books ever written, Don Quixote de la Mancha chronicles the adventures of the self-created knight-errant, Don Quixote of La Mancha, and his faithful Squire, Sancho Panza, as they travel through sixteenth-century Spain.  Don Quixote believes only what he chooses to believe and sees the world very differently from most people.  Honest, dignified, proud, and idealistic, he wants to save the world.  As intelligent as he is mad, Don Quixote starts out as an absurd and isolated figure and ends up as a pitiable and lovable old man whose strength and wisdom have failed him. In the end, beaten and battered, he dies from a fever, and with his death, knights-errant become extinct instigating the demise of chivalry.

Long-time participant, Araceli Capilla, commented,   “I’m a regular attendee at  Rincón Literario and I really enjoy it. I have been able to experience works of great writers from many different backgrounds, such as Markus Zusak, Maria Duenas, and Stephen King.   It is exciting to discover new writers, new perspectives, and new cultures, and share them with other book club members.”

Rincón Literario meets regularly on the last Saturday of the month to explore literature published in English and Spanish. On October, 25, 2014, readers will discuss the classic, El angel perdido /Lost Angel  by Javier Sierra.

Rincón Literario is made possible by generous support from Friends of the Escondido Public Library. This program is free and open to the public.
