The Escondido Public Library and Escondido Arts Partnership are proud to present Wounded Hearts: A Journey Through Grief, an exhibit and artist lecture. Wounded Hearts is a series of annotated paintings created by CSUSM instructor, psychologist and artist, Dr. Colleen Moss, chronicling her experience of living through loss and recovery. The event features:
- An opening artist’s reception at the Escondido Municipal Gallery on Saturday, November 10th from 5:30 – 8:30 PM.
- A collection of annotated paintings on exhibit from Saturday, November 10 through Friday, November 30th.
- A special artist speaking engagement, featuring Dr. Colleen Moss, on Tuesday, November 13th at the Escondido Public Library at 6:30 PM in the Turrentine Room.
Although suffering the loss of a loved one is a common human experience, it is one that is not openly discussed. Grief, though personal, is a lonely road and ways of coping are not easily shared. Wounded Hearts not only depicts the deep pain and despair that often follows the death of a loved one, but also shows the resiliency of the human spirit and the return of hope. Dr. Colleen Moss will discuss how painting helped her recover from the sudden death of her husband, CSUSM biology Professor Tom Wahlund. Dr. Moss shares her paintings in her lecture and slideshow and the importance of expressing grief. See a LibraryYOU video clip to learn more about her story.
