11/15/2016 Categories: Adults Book Club

Escondido, CA - Escondido Public Library invites readers to join the 2nd Tuesday Book Club meeting on December 13, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. in the Turrentine Room. This month’s selection is the Being Mortal: Medicine and What Happens in the End by Atul Gawande. Copies of the book are available for check out and may be reserved in the Library catalog at library.escondido.org.

Drawing from his own experience as a prominent surgeon, Harvard medical professor and best-selling author Atul Gawande explores aging and death in modern American medicine. Having assisted many terminally ill patients and their families, Gawande asks: At what cost do we value prolonging quantity of life over quality of the remaining time? Gawande uses both storytelling and research to explore these ideas, and book club attendees will have much to discuss.

The 2nd Tuesday Book Club will continue on January 10, 2016 with a group discussion of The Diver’s Clothes Lie Empty by Vendela Vida.

Library programs are generously sponsored by Friends of the Escondido Public Library and are free to the public. Escondido Public Library is located at 239 South Kalmia Street Escondido, CA 92025.  For more information about the 2nd Tuesday Book Club visit library.escondido.org or contact Senior Librarian of Adult Services, Viktor Sjöberg, at 760-839-4814.
