Seventh-grader Benjamin Epstein has had a lot on his mind lately. After losing his father to illness, what he wants most is to help his mother continue with her night classes and avoid eviction from their home. Luckily, Benjamin likes to enter sweepstakes contests. His knack for thinking up catchy jingles has already helped him win coupons and a year's supply of instant oatmeal. Now he has set his sights on the Royal-T Bathroom Tissue slogan contest's $10,000 grand prize. When their landlord gives them four days to come up with the rent, it's a race to win the cash. Gephart treats a difficult subject with just the right amount of levity, and young readers will root for this determined, likable cast of characters.
The R.E.A.D. Book Club continues on May 19th, 2017, with The Fourteenth Goldfish by Jennifer L. Holm.
