Escondido, CA - Escondido Public Library will host a Día de los Muertos celebration for children, ages 4-12 and their families on Thursday, November 2, 2017, from 3:30 – 4:30 p.m. in the Turrentine Room. Dia de los Muertos or Day of the Dead honors the memory of loved ones who have passed away, and the Library celebrates this tradition with cultural stories, music, and sugar skull decorating.
Participants are encouraged to bring in a photo, memento, or loved one’s favorite food to contribute to a temporary community exhibit with offerings to those who have passed. This community exhibit will last for the duration of the program and those who bring mementos can take them home after the program concludes. This event is part of the Library’s Dia de los Muertos celebration that also includes an all ages musical performance by Mexico City-based chamber music quartet Cuarteto Carlos Chávez on Saturday, November 4, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. in the Turrentine Room.
These Día de los Muertos celebrations are made possible through the generous support of Friends of the Escondido Public Library, and are free and open to the public. Registration is not required, but early arrival is encouraged as space and supplies may be limited.
