Escondido Public Library Presents Gold Hill: The Story of Julian’s 1870’s Gold Rush - An Interactive Musical Event

Escondido, CA - Escondido Public Library and the Pioneer Room Friends present Celia Lawley, “Fiddlegirl,” performing Gold Hill: The Story of Julian’s 1870’s Gold Rush on Tuesday, June 23, 2015, at 6:30 p.m. in the Turrentine Room. Lawley packs 12 original songs based on Julian's 1870's gold rush history into this one hour show. An accomplished musician and performer, she sings, acts, and dances while playing fiddle, guitar, mandolin, and tin flute. Lawley invites audience participation and interaction to add to the fun and enjoyment.

Gold Hill is one of many programs offered throughout the Library’s 2015 Summer Reading program line-up. Librarian David Frazee commented “Read to the Rhythm! is this year’s Summer Reading theme, and Gold Hill is the perfect family-friendly program to celebrate reading, music, and local history. Lawley is a native San Diegan and she combines her knowledge of San Diego’s rich history in an entertaining and unique musical performance that everyone will enjoy.”

Escondido Public Library’s 2015 Summer Reading program for adults includes two additional summer concerts as part of the extended 2nd Saturday Concert Series. On Saturday, July 11, 2015, Yale Strom and Hot Pstromi combine klezmer music with Hasidic melodies, Romanian, jazz, classical, and Balkan influences into a new form of Jewish music. On August 8, 2015, the Neave Trio returns to perform classical chamber music.
