Escondido, CA – Escondido Public Library’s 2017 Summer Reading Challenge: Design Your World begins Monday, June 19, 2017 and runs through Monday, July 31, 2017. The program, which encourages reading for fun and life-long learning for all ages, also includes a variety of educational, recreational, and cultural events. Children log their progress online to earn prizes donated by the Friends of the Library and local businesses. Newborns may participate with their parents or caregivers by being read to, engaging in early literacy activities, and attending specialized storytime events.

June events for children and families include:

  • Summer Reading Challenge Kick-Off for all ages on Wednesday, June 21, 2017 from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on the Library’s front patio. Register for the Challenge and receive free samples from Chick-Fil-A and Rita’s Italian Ice.
  • Zip-Line Rocket Craft for children ages 4-12 years on Thursday, June 22, 2017 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Utilize Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM)-related skills to create a rocket using construction paper, a pulley, and string.
  • Baby Storytime for children ages 0-3 years on Wednesday, June 28, 2017 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Babies and their parents or caregivers enjoy interactive stories and action songs. Seating is limited to 30 children.
  • Mad Science San Diego’s Fire & Ice Program for children ages 4-12 years on Thursday, June 29, 2017 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Discover how hot and cold science can be and take a journey through the world of fire and ice.
