Escondido, CA – Escondido Public Library’s Burritos & Book Club for teens, ages 13 to 18, meets on Saturday, September 10, 2016, in the Turrentine Room from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Powerless, by Tera Lynn Childs, is the selected title and copies are available for checkout at the Library’s Information Desk or can be reserved using the Library’s online catalog at library.escondido.org. Students at Escondido High School, San Pasqual High School, and Orange Glen High School can also check out copies at their school library.
In Powerless, Kenna, an ordinary teen, lives in a world full of heroes and villains with super-powers. Kenna is the daughter of heroes. Her mom is a genius who works at a super-secret facility to help develop powers to aid the good guys. When villains break into the lab to rescue a relative they believe is held captive by the heroes, Kenna holds her own, even without powers. But she isn't exactly powerless. Thanks to her mother’s work; she is immune to other people's powers. Kenna stops seeing heroes and villains as good and bad or black and white. Instead she sees the grey area in between and learns that the “villains’’ break -in provides an unexpected plot twist that changes everything she's ever known.
In addition to discussing Powerless, teens can share their opinions and ideas about other books they have enjoyed and propose titles for the next Burritos & Book Club meeting to be held on Saturday, November 12, 2016. Complimentary burritos will be provided, and all participants receive a free book or audiobook at the end of the program.
