Escondido, CA - Escondido Public Library invites adult readers to join the 2nd Tuesday Book Club meeting on Tuesday, December 10, 2013, at 6:00 PM in the Board Room. This month’s selection is The Round House by Louise Erdrich.
One Sunday in the spring of 1988, a woman living on a reservation in North Dakota is attacked. The details of the crime are slow to surface as Geraldine Coutts is traumatized and reluctant to relive or reveal what happened to the police, her husband, Bazil, or their thirteen-year-old son, Joe. In one day, Joe's life is irrevocably transformed. He tries to heal his mother, but she will not leave her bed and slips into an abyss of solitude. Increasingly alone, Joe finds himself thrust prematurely into an adult world for which he is ill prepared. While his father, who is a tribal judge, endeavors to wrest justice from a situation that defies his efforts, Joe becomes frustrated with the official investigation and sets out with his trusted friends, Cappy, Zack, and Angus, to get some answers of his own. Their quest takes them to the Round House, a sacred space and place of worship for the Ojibwe. The 2nd Tuesday Book Club will continue on January 14, 2014, with a discussion on The Daughter of Time by Josephine Tey. The selection for February 11, 2014, will be The Last Runaway by Tracy Chevalier.
All Library programs are free to the public. Escondido Public Library is located at 239 South Kalmia Street in downtown Escondido. For more information about the 2nd Tuesday Book Club visit http://library.escondido.org or contact the Library information desk at 760-839-4839.
