Escondido, CA – This fall, the Escondido Public Library Children’s Department will be offering a selection of fun, interactive, and educational programs for children, age birth-12, and their families. Many of these programs encourage early literacy and the development of a life-long love of reading. Programs are offered almost every day of the week to accommodate parents’ busy schedules. The following free events will be held in the Children’s Room, unless otherwise noted:


Rhymes & Reading meets Mondays in September, October, and November at 11:00 AM in the Turrentine Room. Ms. Merrily Cox shares new songs, fingerplays, and books with preschoolers, ages 4-5, and a caregiver.

Toddler Tales meets every Wednesday in September and October at 10:30 AM. Ms. Teresa Garcia shares songs, fingerplays, and stories with children, ages 1-3, and a caregiver. This is a new program in response to community requests for a program that addresses the needs of very young children.

Cowboy Charlie meets the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Thursday in September, October, and November at 10:30 AM. Children, ages 3-5, sing and clap along with Cowboy Charlie as he shares cowboy songs, sea chanteys, and railroad tunes.

Kinder Craft meets on the 4th Thursday in September, October, and November at 10:30 AM. This is a craft program for children, ages 3-5. Large playgroups and clubs are welcome, but we request that you call ahead as craft supplies may be limited.


Love on a Leash, Paws for Reading is held on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month from 3:30—4:30 PM. Children, ages 5-12, can read to Murphy, Hank, or Samantha, our certified pet therapy dogs. Their non-judgmental support helps children improve their reading skills. Pre-registration is required, please call 760-839-4837 to reserve a spot.

Knights Realm Chess Club meets every Monday from 3:30—5:00 PM. Children, ages 6-12, enjoy a hands-on learning experience with the goal of having fun, gaining knowledge, and developing sportsmanship.


Second Saturday Storytime and Craft will meet on the 2nd Saturday of September, 2013, through the second Saturday of May, 2014, from 11:00 AM—12 PM. Children, ages 3-12, and their families will join Children’s staff for fun with stories and an accompanying craft.
