The Escondido Public Library’s annual Summer Reading Club begins Monday, June 11th and runs through Saturday, August 4th. This year’s theme is Dream Big, READ! Children from Pre-Kindergarten to 6th grade may sign-up for the Summer Reading Club (SRC) at the Escondido Public Library in the Children’s Room.
To participate, each child can read books, magazines, graphic novels, listen to audiobooks, or read to their younger siblings. Reading for 4 hours, 8 hours, and 12 hours will earn children prizes and allow them to complete the club. Time spent reading can be tracked on the reading log or on the Summer Reading Website. When children reach a reading goal, they simply come to the library to claim their prize. The last day to register is Monday, July 30th.
Special events will take place weekly throughout the program. On June 14th Annie Banannie and The Really Big Balloon at 2 PM will kick-off the Summer Reading Club and the grand finale will take place on August 2nd with John Abrams’, Animal Magic at 2 PM. Summer reading clubs encourage children to spend time with books and develop a love of reading for pleasure. They also increase retention of skills learned throughout the school year and engage parents in playing a greater role in their child's literacy development.
This program is made possible by the generous support from the Friends of the Escondido Public Library. All programs are free and open to the public, and registration is not required to attend weekly weekly performances and crafts. Come early as seating is limited.
The Escondido Public Library is located at 239 South Kalmia Street in downtown Escondido. For information about this and other Library events, visit our website or phone 760-839-4837.
May all your dreams come true!
