At the Escondido Public Library, we offer a wide-range of programs to support local authors! From the Escondido Writers Group to our Local Author Collection, our goal is to nurture and foster local writing and talent in the Escondido area and beyond! Biblioboard

Get Started with Biblioboard!

Biblioboard is an awesome eBook platform that allows you to read eBooks by local authors! Click the link above to get started. You can also download the Biblioboard app for Android and Apple devices!

Are you thinking about self-publishing your own book? You can now create, edit, format and generate print-ready and eBook formats for your book—no matter how far along it may be by using the Pressbooks service by Biblioboard! You can even choose to register your book with the Indie Author Project! After submitting to the Indie Author Project,  your book can be shared with patrons of participating libraries across your region. If your book is selected by our curation partners, it will also be available alongside other great indie reads in participating libraries across the U.S. and Canada. Annual Writing Competition

About the Escondido Writers Group Annual Writing Competition

The Escondido Writer's Group Writing Competition highlights the intellectual and creative accomplishments of writers in the San Diego region. This year marks our 2nd year! 

A call for fiction or non-fiction (excluding poetry) submissions goes on between February 1, 2020–March 15, 2020. The winner will be announced at the Escondido Writers Group Meeting on May 5, 2020.

Entries should be:
• Typed or in electronic format
• 2500 word limit
• Double spaced, one-inch margins
• Name only on cover sheet. All entries are ‘blind’ read by 3 published writers

Prizes will be given for the follow categories:
• Fiction
• Non-fiction
• Secret Judge Special Award
• Honorable Mention

Local Author Collection

Local Author Collection features books written by California authors! The Library maintains titles that are written by local authors as a special collection. Whether purchased or donated, these titles are evaluated based on standard collection development guidelines.

Escondido Writers Group (Virtual Meetings)

Escondido Writers Group

Writers of all genres are invited to join the Escondido Writers Group for an opportunity to improve their writing by participating in monthly readings and group critiques. Meet other writers and published authors, and learn from one another in a supportive environment. Participants are encouraged to bring samples of their current writing projects to share and receive constructive feedback.

Annual Open Mic

The San Diego Veterans Writing Group's 3rd Annual Open Mic -- CANCELLED

Saturday, April 4, 2020 3:00–5:00 p.m. in the Turrentine Room.

It’s your time to shine. Be heard! Writers of all genres are invited to participate in this special Open Mic event. Read your poem, tell your pet peeve. Have an issue you’d like to an answer to? Tell us in this event. The mic will be yours for 5 uninterrupted minutes!

The San Diego Veterans Writing Group will read their stories of anguish, valor, and victory. Please arrive by 2:30 p.m. to secure a spot.
