After the tragedy of her mother's death, Emily must be the lady of the house but has to worry about her father's drunkenness at all times. Emily wants to get away from her home using a boy.
I like it because through the book you can see Emily change from a timid little girl into a strong, independent woman. Emily becomes totally assertive and doesn't let anyone boss her around. The bad thing about that is that it doesn't always work in her favor.
I recommend this book to anyone who appreciates reading about confident, powerful women. Also there's a little bit of love, but the plot is mostly concerns the main character, Emily.
