Your child can get a library card, but you must sign the application form and show ID if they are under the age of 18.

We care about your child's safety. Please do not leave children under 10 years of age alone in the library. (Please see our Code of Conduct)

Visiting the library

Attend storytime - We host storytime for babies and children up to five years old, with crafts and games included. Get more information about days, times, and ages here.

Read aloud to animals - For children ages 5-12. Pre-registration is required.

  • Paws for Reading - Read aloud to certified Love on a Leash pet therapy dogs for fun or to help improve reading skills.
  • Read to a Dragon - Read aloud to bearded dragons for fun or to help improve reading skills.           

Check out a Museum Pass - We offer free family museum passes to four San Diego museums. Passes are first come, first serve and reservations can be made in person or by phone. 

Use our computers - Your child can use our computers to access the internet, do their homework, and play educational games. We also have Parent Computers so you can keep your child company in the Children's Department.
*Children have to use their own library cards to access our computers.

Use our online databases - You and your child can access our databases in two ways:

  • Through our library computers
  • At home with your library card

Discounts at Local Stores - Read Local Shop Local is a partnership with VisitEscondido that allows you to receive discounts at participating businesses when you show your library card. Some participants include EcoVivarium, Baltimore Snowball, Kettle Coffee & Tea, and many more.
