Escondido, CA - Rincón Literario (The Literary Corner), Escondido Public Library’s Bilingual Book Discussion Group, will meet on Saturday, February 28, 2015, from 3:30 – 4:45 p.m. in the Library’s Turrentine Room. Has visto a Maria? / Have You Seen Marie? by Sandra Cisneros, is the selected book for February. Participants discuss books bilingually, in English and Spanish, enabling them to enjoy great literature in either language. Rincón Literario also provides an opportunity to improve either English or Spanish language skills.
Award-winning author, Sandra Cisneros, tells the story of her search for a runaway cat that parallels her journey through grief after the death of her mother. Warmly comforting, this story not only explores loss but also the journey back, creating a book that is unique and uplifting.
During her grieving process, Cisneros is visited by her friend Roz, who brings along her cat, Marie. The cat disappears the day they arrive, and she and Roz desperately take to the streets to search for Marie. As they search, we are introduced to the colorful experiences and the occupants of San Antonio.
This picture book for adults explores the ways in which grief lays us low, but also can bring us out to discover the strength of the communities we belong to and to remind us that there is life all around us.
Rincón Literario meets regularly on the last Saturday of the month to explore literature published in English and Spanish. On March 28, 2015, readers will discuss En el tiempo de las mariposas / In the Time of Butterflies by Julia Alvarez.
Rincón Literario is made possible by generous support from Friends of the Escondido Public Library. This program is free and open to the public.
