Operations Bureau
Purpose
The Escondido Police Department's Uniform Bureau is responsible for responding to emergency and routine calls for police service 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Function & Structure
The Uniform Bureau is comprised of uniformed patrol officers, community service officers, supervisors, and volunteers.
The following assignments are included in the Uniform Bureau:

Cadet Post
The Escondido Police Cadet Post is on the lookout for motivated young men and women ready to meet the challenges of law enforcement and public service.

COPPS Unit
The Escondido Police Department’s Community Oriented Policing and Problem Solving (COPPS) Unit was re-established in January 2017, after a several-year hiatus.

K-9 Unit
The Escondido Police Department K-9 Unit was established in 1985 with two police service dogs with the goal of enhancing the effectiveness of our police officers in searching for and apprehending violent criminals, locating evidence, narcotics and explosive devices.

Patrol Division
The Patrol Division consists of 12 teams of police and community service officers assigned to work specific neighborhoods for six-month shifts.

PERT
The Psychiatric Emergency Response Team (PERT) consists of a licensed mental health clinician and a dedicated Escondido police officer that work together to assess a mentally ill individual.

School Resource Officers
The School Resource Officer position is a three-year rotational position and was developed in 1989 with Officer Roger Konczal being the first Resource Officer.

Tactical Operations Group
The Tactical Operations Group (TOG) includes the Emergency Negotiations Team (ENT), SWAT, Tactical Dispatchers, and specially trained Fire Department paramedics.

Traffic Division
The primary responsibility of the Escondido Police Department's Traffic Unit is to make the streets of Escondido as safe as possible for citizens and visitors traveling by foot, bicycle, or motor vehicle.
