Donations

The Library and the Friends of the Library gladly accept donations. The Friends of the Escondido Public Library is an approved, volunteer-run 501(c)3 organization. Donated items may be added to the Library's collection or given to the Friends shop for sale; all donations become the property of the Library or the Friends of the Library.

All funds (100%) raised by the Friends of the Escondido Public Library and Bookstore support reading and cultural programs for children, teens, and adults and purchase books, DVDs, and other materials for the circulating collections.

Donation Guidelines

Not all donations will be added to the Library collection. Items added must adhere to the Library's Collection Development Policy and Collection Development Plan. The Friends Bookstore may sell items not added to the Library collection. All efforts are made to find a use for donated materials.

Acceptable Donations:

  • Used books
  • Encyclopedias (Complete Sets Only)
  • Magazines (less than one-year old)
  • DVDs and Blu-rays
  • Music CDs
  • Audiobooks on CD
  • Vinyl or other records
  • Video Games

Note: Textbooks are not accepted at this time

If you are donating a few items:

Please visit the Friends Bookshop in the North County Mall and leave your donation with the cashier on duty.

If you are donating a box or more of items:

Please bring donations to the Friends Bookshop in the North County Mall. If you are unable to carry the box, please visit the Bookshop and we will help bring in the donation on a book cart. 

If the Friends Bookshop is closed, donations can be dropped off with staff at the Customer Service Desk in the Escondido Public Library storefront right across from the Friends Bookshop in the North County Mall. 

Donation Limits

The Friends can only accept up to five (5) banker-size boxes per person per week. If you have a larger donation, please contact the Friends via phone at 760-839-4832 or email us at EscondidoFriends@gmail.com 

Tax Information

All donations are tax-deductible. Please request a receipt from the Library staff for your records.
