Volunteer Goals

The Volunteer Program performs a wide range of duties that support various operational aspects of the Escondido Police Department. 

By supporting daily operations, it increases the availability of police officers to meet community demands. Additionally, volunteers promote community awareness about police department functions and crime prevention through various community events.









Volunteer Program Duties

The Volunteer Program performs a wide range of duties that support various operational facets of the Escondido Police Department. 

  • These duties enable the volunteers to serve as the eyes and ears of the Department serving as a force multiplier for the department.
  • Traffic accidents and traffic control are the primary areas where the volunteers are needed.

Escondido Police Department Volunteers perform a wide range of non-hazardous duties.

  • Patrol the city in marked volunteer patrol cars and serve as the “Eyes and Ears” of the Department
  • Ticketing illegally parked vehicles
  • Assist with traffic Control
  • Vacation House Checks
  • Provide citizen assistance
  • Enforce handicap and fire lane parking regulations
  • Assist in the abatement of unattended or abandoned vehicles.
  • Assist at DUI and Traffic Safety Checkpoints.
  • Participate in special events.
  • Assist in locating missing persons.
  • Role playing in training simulations.

 







Who are the Volunteers?

Volunteers come from all walks of life. While some Volunteers are employed in a different profession, others are retired. We have a diverse group of individuals with various backgrounds and experiences to contribute to the effectiveness of the team.

They all share the common goal “To Serve”.













Who May Volunteer and What Can You Expect When You Apply?

  • Anyone over 18 Years of age with a valid California driver’s license is welcome to apply.
  • You will be interviewed, fingerprinted, and have a background check performed
  • You can elect to work what fits into your schedule.
  • You may elect to be available “On Call” for special short-term assignments.
  • Help is needed in nearly many areas of the Police Department.
