What is the Summer Reading Club?    

A 6 week program filled with weekly free crafts and special events designed to reward reading for fun over the summer.


Who can sign up?    

Children entering Pre-Kindergarten to 6th grade next fall are eligible for the Summer Reading Club.


How do I sign up?     

Register for the Summer Reading Club online or come to the Children’s Department during open hours starting on Monday, June 23rd to sign-up.

The last day to register is July 21, 2014.


What’s going on in the library during Summer Reading Club? 

We host events every Tuesday and Thursday. You'll find the full event listing in the sidebar to the right.


Why should I sign-up? 

Read books, magazines, graphic novels, listen to audiobooks, or read to younger siblings and you’ll earn prizes!


How does it work? 

Track the hours you read on your paper reading log or online. Earn a prize for every 4 hours you read (up to 12 hours)

  • 4 hours of reading = free treasure chest goodies
  • 8 hours of reading = free coupons for food and Balboa Park museums
  • 12 hours of reading = 1 free book of your choice
