Who can get a library card?
Any person may get a library card with a legal photo ID and proof of residence.
Any person without proof of residence may still get an Internet-use-only card but may not borrow materials.
What do I need to get a card?
Visit the Main Library to fill out a Library Card Application. Please bring a legal photo ID with proof of residence.
Acceptable forms of ID:
- Valid Driver's License
- California ID card
- Resident Alien card
- Military ID
- Passport
Parents or guardians must sign application and show their ID for children and teens under 18 years of age.
What can I do with my library card?
Where can I use my card?
You may use only use your card at the Escondido Public Library. Escondido is not part of the San Diego Library System or the San Diego County Library system.
Returning books to libraries outside Escondido
If you return Escondido Public Library books to a library that is in San Diego County but is outside of City of Escondido, they will most likely make it back but may be late so you will be charged late fines. Please do not return CDs, DVDs, or audiobooks to any library outside Escondido.
What happens if I lose my card?
You should report lost/stolen cards immediately to Customer Service: (760) 839-4684
Replacement cards cost $2.50 for adults and $1.00 for those under 18 years of age.
