Overview

The Escondido Hero Banner Program recognizes and honors the dedicated service of individuals who have served or are serving in the U.S. Armed Forces and as First Responders. The program offers personalized banners that are prominently displayed throughout downtown Escondido.
Each banner features a photo of the honoree, their name, years of service, and their branch or agency. All photographs must be a forward-facing portrait. These banners are displayed from Memorial Day (mid-May) to Veterans Day (mid-November), serving as a public tribute to their commitment and sacrifice.
Hero Banners 2026
Applications for new banners and renewals are now open through April 10, 2026.
New banners are $250, and rehangs are $50 to cover banner costs. Banners can typically be hung for 2 years. After that, due to weathering and discoloration, we recommend replacing the banner. A virtual map with all the banner locations will be available in May and will be sent to all families who participate in the program. Before signing up, we recommend you have a front-facing portrait of your hero for the banner as well as their story to be added to the map.
