Sea of Monsters

by Rick Riordan
04/25/2013 Categories: adventure fantasy movie mythology

Sea of MonstersPercy Jackson and his friends must go to the Sea of Monsters in order to save Grover and Camp Half Blood. There's a monster guarding what they need, making it the hardest quest they have ever received.

I really liked it because Percy and his friends are brave. They take risks for each other; even Clarisse gets to be part of the team. The mythological gods help their children even though they may not see. The Gods are greatly involved trying to defeat Kronos.

If anyone doesn't understand mythology gods they can read the Percy Jackson series. Percy Jackson makes it fun and easier to remember the myths.

Warm Bodies

A plague has turned people into zombies. Nobody knows how or why it started, but now everywhere you turn you see gray skin. R, a zombie who can't remember his own name, is the one who must change the zombies' fate.

I liked this book a lot because R, the main character, is trying his hardest to regain his ability to care. With Julie, R can care again and tries his hardest to keep his humanity out for others to see.

This book has romance AND zombies for anyone who needs a little thrill. There is also some supernatural bits with R as he gets closer to saving human kind.

I would recommend these books because they are very interesting. If you read this you should be interested in dramatic books

This book is great. The Perks of Being a Wallflower is a bit on the sad side but an overall a wonderful book.

Memoirs of a GeishaThe book is about a Japanese girl who is torn away from her family at a young age. She goes to live in a house with three older ladies, another girl her age, and a famous Geisha. The hope is that someday she will become a Geisha as well. With many set backs, she has a difficult journey, only helped by the handsome Chairman.

It was a very good book. It opens up a whole new culture in such a unique way and allows you to form deep connections with the main character as she makes her way through a life mostly forced upon her.

I would most definitely recommend this book to others because it is a great story that incorporates Japanese culture and history. Most likely, you will like this book if you are interested in Japanese culture, geisha, or narratives of the struggles of a young girl.

Mockingjay coverKatniss is finally at District 13, which she thought didn't exist! Now she has to fight in the war against the Capitol in order for all the people of each district to get their freedom back. But there's a catch! President Snow has Peeta and the closer Katniss gets to her goal the more she hurts Peeta. Katniss has to decide if she really wants to go save all of Panem or risk losing Peeta.

I thought it was exceptionally well written. I really like how all the districts fit into the story line. Also there is a love triangle thing going on, and what teenage girl doesn't enjoy that?

I would definitely recommend this book for anyone to read. I absolutely love it because you can connect to Katniss! Also you don't know what Katniss will do next! There's so many surprises and plot twists this book will leave you at the edge of your seat.

Lord of the Flies

by William Golding
12/12/2012 Categories: movie survival stories

This book is about a group of boys who were on a plane and crash on a deserted island. One boy named Ralph is wandering the beach looking for other survivors and finds one other boy, nicknamed Piggy. Ralph finds a conch shell, decides to blow on it as a signal for other survivors, if there are any, to come to them. It turns out they are all still alive and have to survive until rescue comes, that is, if it comes.

I thought this book was pretty good, but I couldn't really get into it to much. I thought it was a good concept for a book, but I feel it could have been better portrayed.

I would recommend this book to others because it is a good book if you don't have anything else to read. I feel that people who are into books that involve survival such as The Cay and The Hatchet would like this one.

12/06/2012 Categories: movie realistic fiction romance war

Lucky One coverFormer U.S Marine, Logan Thibault, became lucky when he found a photograph of a beautiful young woman while serving in Iraq. This photograph has been claimed to have saved his life through many horrible battles. This mysterious woman has been in his thoughts daily, and he wants to find her. He thinks that if he finds her, he would have to find a way to repay her.

I picked up this book because I adored the author, Nicholas Sparks. I liked this book because it was full of romance. I was clearly not surprised of my enjoyment of this book because every book I have read from Nicholas Sparks has never failed me. I was though surprised by what happens in the end.

I would recommend this book to teens and young adults who simply enjoy romance. This book will make you twist in some chapters and sometimes you might even want to scream at characters.

Catching Fire

by Suzanne Collins
11/13/2012 Categories: action dystopia movie romance

Catching FireKatniss is rebelling against the Capitol, while deciding who she loves most, Gale or Peeta. The Capitol does not like Katniss ever since she thought about the berries that would kill her and Peeta. Now Katniss has to find ways to get President Snow to leave her alone without getting her family and loved ones killed.

I LOVED THIS BOOK! Catching Fire is a "hang on the edge of your seat" type of book. Katniss will keep you guessing what she will do next. On top of that there is the forever looming Capital that wants her dead. Katniss is great character, she is brave and loyal to her loved ones.

This book would be great for girls who like strong feminine characters that know how to kick butt. Catching Fire is also an action thriller and will keep you guessing.

The Scarlet Letter

by Nathaniel Hawthorne
10/22/2012 Categories: classic historical movie

This book was about the life of a "harlot". While she only did what any other human being would, the world around Hester Prynne judges her to an extreme.

This book was a bit of a challenge, but had a very strong message and conveyed a very interesting tone.

This book would probably only be best for teens, or adults, with higher reading levels, but just because it is a challenge.
