Escondido, CA – The multitalented Judy Taylor will perform at Escondido Public Library with her country swing band, The Wild Oats, on Saturday, March 12th, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. in the Turrentine Room.  

Judy Taylor and The Wild Oats will showcase their blend of country, Cajun, and rock and roll music. Taylor’s talents include trick roping, gun slinging, bullwhip cracking, and of course, guitar playing. Learn more at judytaylormusic.com.     Blind Date with a Book
    Don’t judge a book by its cover! Visit the Library’s displays during open hours, and go on a blind date with a fantastic read. Selected titles are wrapped and decorated with clues as part of this literary guessing game. You may just find your perfect match!

    POUND Rockout Workout

Escondido, CA - Bluegrass band MohaviSoul will perform at Escondido Public Library on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. in the Turrentine Room.

Escondido Public Library’s 2nd Saturday Concert Series Presents Opera Exposed! with Dr. Nicolas Reveles

Escondido, CA - Opera Exposed!, a program of operatic selections, will be performed at Escondido Public Library on Saturday, January 9th, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. in the Turrentine Room. Emerging vocalists perform selections from familiar operas to entertain and educate, as well as to promote the San Diego Opera’s 2016 season.

San Diego Opera’s Opera Exposed! program is made up of undergraduate singers from the University of San Diego, Point Loma Nazarene University, and San Diego State University enthusiastically spreading knowledge and the joy of opera!” said Dr. Nicholas Reveles, the San Diego Opera Company’s Director of Education and Community Engagement. Dr. Reveles will accompany the singers on piano and provide commentary on the great stories behind operas such as ToscaMadame Butterfly, and Great Scott.

The 2nd Saturday Concert Series runs through May 2016 and features an array of classical, jazz, and other diverse musical styles. February’s concert presents Mohavi Soul, performing traditional bluegrass and original music by guitarist Mark Miller and mandolinist Randy Hanson.

Winter & Spring 2016 Storytime Programs at Escondido Public Library

Escondido, CA – Escondido Public Library offers a variety of storytime programs in winter and spring 2016, designed for babies, toddlers, and pre-kindergarten children. Storytime programs are filled with fun songs, fingerplays, flannel board presentations, puppets and, of course, stories just right for the development of young minds in these age groups. Library staff are happy to help families find books to check out after storytime.

Escondido Public Library’s 2016 winter and spring storytime schedule begins January 4, 2016 and runs through April 28, 2016 and includes:

  • Rhymes and Reading on Mondays at 11:00 a.m. for children ages 3-5;
  • Baby Lapsit on Wednesdays at 10:15 a.m. for newborn babies to pre-walkers;
  • Toddler Tales on Thursdays at 10:15 a.m. for toddlers who are walking up to 3 years-old. Toddler Tales is a bilingual program.

Note: Storytime programs will not be offered March 23-24 or 30-31.

The Library’s storytime programs address the development of early literacy skills that are important in preparing children for school. Each storytime program is planned and presented around the idea that parents are their child’s first and most important teacher. Storytimes facilitate bonding between parents and young children and provide a positive experience with books and play that often leads to a life-long love of reading and learning.

Escondido Public Library Hosts Annual Children’s Holiday Tree Trimming Party

Escondido, CA – Escondido Public Library will host its Children’s Holiday Tree Trimming Party  on Thursday, December 3, 2015, from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. in the Turrentine Room. Children celebrate this annual event by making an ornament and decorating the Children’s Room tree. They can also make an ornament to take home. This festive event celebrates the holiday spirit with a special visit from Santa Claus.

Kristine Macalalad, Children’s Librarian, encourages families to “Join the fun and make an ornament to hang on the Children’s Room tree. Be sure to arrive early, as craft supplies may be limited, and to also allow enough time to make one to take home.”

Escondido Public Library’s 2nd Saturday Concert Series Presents the Gilbert Castellanos Trio

Escondido, CA – Escondido Public Library’s 2nd Saturday Concert Series presents the fiery Latin jazz of the Gilbert Castellanos Trio on Saturday, November 14, 2015, at 3:00 p.m. in the Turrentine Room.

Trumpeter Gilbert Castellanos leads the trio of notable and accomplished musicians. He has won San Diego Music Awards (SDMAs) for Best Jazz three years in a row and has performed with such stars as Charles McPherson, Dizzy Gillespie, George Benson, Diana Krall, Al Jarreau, Wynton Marsalis, and Dr. John. Emmy-winning pianist and composer Irving Flores has performed with Abraham Laboriel, Alex AcunaAlex Acuña, and the Spanish Harlem Orchestra. Percussionist Tommy Aros has performed with Freddie Hubbard, Charo, and is a member of the popular band Fattburger.

On December, 12, 2015, celebrate the holidays with the 2nd Saturday Concert Series presentation of Courtly Noyse at 3:00 p.m. in the Turrentine Room. Courtly Noyse features Renaissance music and instruments, and lively stories.

Escondido Public Library Celebrates Halloween Carnival & Día De Los Muertos

Escondido, CA - Escondido Public Library will host Halloween Carnival & Día de los Muertos, on Friday, October 30, 2015, from 3:30 - 5:00 p.m. in the Turrentine Room. This family-oriented celebration includes stations with “spook-tacular” crafts, face-painting, and sugar skull decorating. As a special feature, two Día de los Muertos storytimes will be held, one at 3:45 p.m., and the second at 4:30 p.m.

Halloween Carnival & Día de los Muertos is made possible by the generous support from Friends of the Escondido Public Library. Halloween Carnival & Dia de los Muertos is free and open to the public. Registration is not required, but early arrival is encouraged as space and supplies may be limited. December 12, 2015             Courtly Noyse – Renaissance era instruments and music

In November, The Gilbert Castellanos Trio will play jazz standards as well as contemporary and original songs. They will be followed in December by Courtly Noyse whose Holiday concert draws inspiration from Renaissance music.
